The formation and founding of United Artist A meeting was held and four famous actors pledged their good names as well as money to the creation of a series of motion pictures in 1925. They prepaired a little presentation piece to go to the largest theater owners. There were two pages presenting the promises of United Artist and there was a page for each of the four founders, Mary Pickford, Douglas Fairbanks, Charlie Chaplin and D. W. Griffith. There was also a sheet announcing two more major motion pictures to be made by their new enterprise for two of their friends, William S. Hart and Rudolph Valentino.
